Getting benefits after you are injured at work may get a lot harder thanks to some new rules written by the North Carolina Industrial Commission.
One significant and unfortunate proposal is that workers may be asked to pay for the right to get their benefits under the law. Most of the cost burden fell on employers or their insurance companies. The law allows for this so that the general public won’t have to be responsible for workers whose jobs cause them to be hurt. Now, injured workers could be forced to take on expenses that may be a significant hardship or that would prevent them from following through with their claim.
What is not included in the proposal is a provision for those injured workers to have access to justice who simply cannot pay costs and other claim-related fees.
Filing a workers’ comp claim is hard work and fighting on your own behalf when your injured can be daunting. If you or a loved one has been hurt at work, please do not hesitate to call CJG to see if we can help you get the benefits you need and deserve.
