The Johnsons would like to thank everyone for supporting their episode of Love it or List it which premiered on Monday night.
The Johnson home is a mid-century modern split-level in Durham’s Forest Hills neighborhood, designed by architect Archie Davis and built for George Herbert, the first president of Research Triangle Institute, who raised his large family here. Valerie fell in love with the house for its history as well as its spaciousness and clean design. The problem was, it hadn’t been renovated in over fifty years. “It needed work,” Valerie admits. “What it needed,” Sam says, “was a total transformation.”
They met with contractors and architects to talk about remodeling, but were overwhelmed by the detailed decisionmaking required of them. “It was impossible,” Valerie says. “Our schedules were already jam-packed.” So when a contractor told her “Love It or List It” was in town, she jumped at the chance for help. Being chosen for the show, she says, was a godsend.
After a summer of living in exile while designer Hilary Farr renovated their house and realtor David Visentin tried to persuade them to move, the Johnsons decided to “List” their house. If you missed the show, you can view future air times by clicking here.
